"We are more than disappointed in the quarters provided for
the Nursing Staff. The actual building is withina few yards of
the hospital and very much overlooked in consequence. The rooms
themselves are very small and most unsuitable for a climate like
Hong Kong."

Our
"We are all rather upset here about the new Hospital.
quarters are so very bad. The building has a most imposing
appearance, but the rooms are tiny and the verandahs very narrow,
so that the sun comes in with great force. Also the bathrooms
are small and few, and this in a place where baths are so necess-
ary!
Our rooms are no different from those of the Chinese
probationers and we have no privacy from them; they are noisy
little things and have gramaphones on which they play Chinese
music! No wonder the new sisters do not wish to stay on the
permanent staff.
I am lucky to be in Kowloon. The quarters here are fairly
good, though even here we are rather on top of the nurses.
However, the hospital is nice and open and airy and we get some
excellent work. So I hope very much that I may remain here.
The new hospital is very far from the town, and means of con-
veyance are scarce. One of our sisters came down in a coal lorry
the other day for want of other conveyance taxis are so expensive
I don't want you to think we do nothing but grumble, but I
do feel too, that these things should be known to you."
